I am not using the demo, but I have experienced many crashes while running other applications (especially 3D software) simultaniously.
Try it again after closing all 3D tools and other apps, even firefox.

Have a look to the manual for export settings:

Use always the latest nvidia driver.

I noticed that bezier and nurbs curves make Octane demo crash immediately. When the objects were converted to mesh they worked just fine. Also one thing is that a file imported directly from Archicad to Octane as obj crashed but didn't crash when it was first imported to Blender as 3ds and then to Octane as obj. Maybe you can check this type of things too.
Just my 0.02.

One factor I've found that seems to be attributed to my crashing issues is texture image sizes. multiple texture images at 4000x4000 seem to be the source of my crashes.
I use a polyview (or you can use some other image editor) and alter all images above 2000x2000 and reduce them to 2000x2000 and I haven't had a crash since.
This also seems to fix my past issue of once the object file is loaded and I start the render, Octance crashes. As I said I haven't had a crash since.

It could be the VRAM on the card being full, eg the 2.2/DEMO release is quite old and at that time there were some memory management bugs,
where it was easy to crash octane by throwing too much data at it with large meshes and large textures.
Current 2.4x releases are lightyears ahead in stability and showing error messages when there is no more room in your GPU memory.
The 2.46 demo is being prepared and will be available very shortly, in 1-2 days.
