Is there any way that you can provide the Windows releases in ZIP format (like you have been doing with the past few releases)? IMO, they are so much easier to install (you just copy and paste) and uninstall (you just delete).

I understand that you are probably trying to help out new users that need the registry hack, but many of us already have that fix and would prefer a ZIP install.

Thanks for all of the hard work.

lots of hotpixels

almost no hotpixels

..may depend on the new features.
what can i change to make it render faster again wo hotpixels?

edit: i see that this comparison is a lil unfair due to the new features available. i need to do some tweakings in 2.45 to achieve the same visual result and maybe compare rendertime/hotpixels then again..

Great news. Thanks for the good work.
As I have currently very few time to test Octane, I will wait for the Zip version.

It could be the different brightnesses of the lights. The LED on the right is now very bright, because the brightness is now independ of the size, while it was dependent on the size in the past. Could you try to tweak the lights to get a similar lighting behaviour as in beta 2.44? If the noise stays like that, we might have introduced a problem.

Marcus

I don't think it's a bug/change, it's probably related to the changes in parameters to area lights,
you need to reconfigure them to get the same result, then compare.

Apart from the different area light watt/efficiency controls, we did'nt make other changes that would create more fireflies,
so try to replicate the original setup as good as possible.

I'm not %100 sure though, could be an issue that was introduced with the modifications to area lights,
i think we need more time/testing to make sure.

If anyone else experiences this, please report here :)

This release seems to run very smooth :D Thanks for a great job guys!

Some things I noticed:
1. Moving the toolbar does not get saved. So you have to do it everytime you restart Octane.

2. Changing a surfaces to a floatimages, floattexture, image og whatever in the node inspector, will set the power of it to 0.9 which is very annoying. Any chance to have it default to 1.0 (max power)?

3. I know Radiance has improved reflectance models where light gets lost in reflections at grazing angles, but is it possible to improve that even further? I still get these black rings around objects when I want a shiny surface but no or very little reflections.

4. Octane doesn't read the MTL file settings correctly. If I wan't a surfaces roughness at 0.1, it's not possible to do so, as Octane limits this to only 0.025 (I talked to Abstrax about this).

+1, very annoying

And i have also noticed an increase in fire flies.

The toolbar placement is stored with the default scene, when you select File -> Save as Default...

Regarding the fireflies: Please make sure that your small lights are now not a lot brighter and mights cause more noise. Again, if you have a scene, that produces more fireflies or noise, with similar brightnesses, please let us know.

Cheers,
Marcus
