Could someone help me. I am trying to import quite simple obj files from rhino and octane always crashes!!. I am considering buying octane to help me in my thesis but i cannot import obj files!
Also why octane supports only 1 of literally tens of available mesh data formats and we dont have any other option in case obj is not working???
thanks a lot!!

Have a look to this thread:

OBJ is the first implemented format, every 3d software have an exporter, later on other formats would be added.
Licensed customers get a export plugin for rhino.

thanks for the reply but it didnt helped me. i am trying octane demo and rhino sr8. i tried all possible combinations in rhino for exporting the obj file and octane stops in <voxelizing>. Maybe the export plugin for the licensed customers helps. I am using artlantis for now (far worse results but it is working just fine and imports the same obj files that octane refuses to import). I will think about getting the octane and taking the risk to have some results or not.
thanks anyway!

the demo files work perfectly and so the objs from sketchup and a few files from rhino.
I am using windows 7 64bit, rhino sr8 and octane demo 1.022 beta 2.2. Almost all the rhino files cannot be imported as obj in octane. Octane goes white immediately after i tried to import the file. I can download a rhino model for you to try.
i intended to buy and use octane for my thesis, but i have second thoughts. the files are imported with no problems in artlantis. i also tried to import it to sketchup and export obj from there and the same problem occurs.
thanks!!

also could you have some sample materials to try with the demo version. Its SOOOO frustrating to try to create a simple glass. I tried specular but the material is black and no parameter differentiation seems to change its appearance. You have lots of parameters but the users dont know what exactly each one does (for example what is the difference between <image> and <floatimage>?)
the program should have about 20-30 tops available basic shaders (glass, plastic, organic, wood, metal, fabric, stone for instance) from which each user can create his variations. You have an amazing piece of rendering software which is fairly easy to use but some aspects of it are unfairly letting it behind the competition.

Hi, the current 2.3 versions available to licensed customers have the livedb, a shared database among users with many prebuilt macros/materials.idtasos wrote:also could you have some sample materials to try with the demo version. Its SOOOO frustrating to try to create a simple glass. The demo version is 2.2, we will release a 2.3 demo once 2.3 is finalized.
