Hi! What about making camera navigation scheme like this:
LMB- orbit, MMB- pan, RMB- zoom
Its default in Maya, XSI, cinema, ect

what i think is that we should have profiles.
users come from various applications and they all need to adapt to the navigation controls in octane,
so having a system where people can select a profile would be ideal.
i'll think about this and we'll see if we can add something like this once we've got time.
(currently other priorities need to be adressed first)

If u add profile - I'd like a Maya profile that's what i use in Modo and 3DCoat.

You can tilt by tweaking the Up values
