hey guys, decided I wanted to try and make something new every week, doesn't have to be super involved or anything, just something. Not sure that I'm really going to do anything further to this, but thought I'd post it in WIP since it's hardly high quality :).

I call it sharkship (primarily just because of the fin).

nice - I like the Canberra Electric style engine nacelles

I find it difficult in both music and other things to make one thing a month - let alone a week :p - good luck though man :)

Ya, I'm not even sure it will all be 3D stuff for that matter. Might be VFX, or photog stuff. I do video production, have been obsessed with photo since I was 12, and video work started around 17. So I'm not doing just modeling or rendering.

That being said, something like this only took a couple hours, maybe 3 or so with all the fiddling I did with stripes, and so forth.

I have been reading a book on artistic compositions lately, and the author recommends doing one composition a day for a year and claims that a persons abilities will improve dramatically with this practice.

The book is recommending sketches with a focus on simplifing masses and tonal quality, but I am trying to apply the same line of thinking to producing practice CG models and renders.

I am working toward creating architectural models more quickly, and of reasonalbly high quality in order to have the models needed to practice rendering. So far the modeling is coming along fairly well, but I have yet to do anything but play with the demo files in Octane.

I would like to think that we are both on the right track to improving our skills. Whether it is a sketch a day or a model a week, I think the important thing is that we practice to improve our skills on a regular basis.

Good luck.

like "someone" said ;)

" seeing is drawing " . So I would look more , than read ;)

but I love this one:

" Good artists borrow, and the great artists.... ...steal "

sorry that im here with no invite,.......but look at this CBDS (curve based design system from Tomasz Opasinski [ hes the poster king if You ask me ] ) .... those rules of composition... works best with posters, but its working with 3d too ;) Hope it will help like it helped me.
Im still learning too, so I thought that I can share...

This is just a sample of his systems.

Well, this week I used a 3D render from Octane, and a little photoshop, and made an 1920x1080 sized lower 3rd for free download as another giveaway at a company I do some work for.

get the full sized ones here if you like
http://vasst.com/free-resources.aspx

small preview files below...

Perhaps I'll make something more this week, since that was already done on Sunday. Lots of editing this week though, so we'll see.

While not in 3D, just thought I'd show the thing I did this week. never used photoshop to modify a body before, so I gave it a try.

ok, so here's another one that I did, a locket with my wife and I.

Modeled in blender ( think the solidify caused the somewhat blocky sections even with pretty high sub surf applied.
