Hi all, first post. I'm a hobbyist from South Africa, learning Blender in the evenings, and I've been trying the free Octane for Blender build on an older card, a GTX 1660 with 6 GB.
Simple scenes render fine, but as soon as I add a lot of grass instances for an outdoor scene the render stops with an out of memory message. In Cycles the same scene renders, just slowly.
Is out-of-core textures/geometry something I should switch on for a card this size, or is 6 GB simply too small for heavy instancing in Octane? I'd rather learn the right habits than buy a new card straight away.

Hi,
Yes, Out-of-core is the solution, while waiting for a GPU with more VRAM:
