Hi,
It is possible to set up correctly enviroment projection Mirror ball HDRI in Octane (attachment)?
I don't want to use it equirectangular but Morror Ball projection.

Can I see the HDRI? The format might no be supported currently, but maybe we can find a workaround.

No, that’s not necessary; I just thought there might be an option to set up node as mirror ball,
and the HDRi loks like this:

thanks

Hi,

I've been experimenting with Mirror Ball projections in Octane and created an OSL script that allows you to use this type of image directly as an environment texture.

You can download the script here:
Octane_MirrorBall_Projection_v1_2.osl
(1.68 KiB) Downloaded 2 times
Simply load it into an **OSL Projection** node and connect its output to the **Projection** input of your RGB Image node.

The setup is:

**OSL Projection → RGB Image → Texture Environment → World Output**

However, keep in mind that Mirror Ball images have some inherent limitations. The environment is heavily compressed around the edges of the sphere, especially in the area directly behind the camera that photographed it. This can produce visible distortion and black circular artifacts.

I've tested the same image in Cycles, which supports Mirror Ball projection natively, and observed similar artifacts. So this isn't necessarily an Octane-specific issue, but rather a limitation of the projection itself.

For these reasons, I'd strongly recommend using equirectangular HDRIs whenever possible. They provide more uniform coverage and are generally much more practical for environment lighting.

Hope this helps!

Best,
Lino

Lino yes this is what I expect, thank you very much :)

That's right, equirectangular HDRIs is more effective.
