Can we have just normal compositing with blend nodes like in Blender or any 2d compositor please. I don;t understand a thing in those "layers" seems even can't composite them without some extreme mental gymnastic.
Could somebody post a few examples of how to do a subtle color correction using crypto-matte masks please. Or how use some staked layers as a reusable mask for blending other groups of layers please.

For the start where should I connect mask to a layer? The ways described in docs doesn't work . I mean the way where the mask it put as 3d layer to mask second in outputAOV . When I connect crypto-matte to effects of green color layer it does nothing too. Blending settings has no option for any alpha image either .

Hi,

About Cryptomatte mask, please have a look at the following possible solution.

Let's say that we want to desaturate only the green cube and the blue cylinder.

In the first Layer there is the desaturated beauty AOV, while in the second layer there is the masked beauty aov, with Cryptomatte mask sets to material-node-name:

The trick is to change the Regions in Blending settings to "Background minus foreground".

About the second question, could you share an example scene to better understand what you need?

ciao,
Beppe
