Hi, I'm trying to control opacity/density of a Hair object with a Vertex Map and it seems this is still not possible in Octane 2026.4. I've tried plugging the vertex map to the opacity through a regular vertex map node and an attribute node. Hair Density doesn't seem supported at all, so no use there. Would much rather use density, as plugging a b&w mask into the material opacity makes the render quite a bit slower.

Is this ever going to be supported or is it not on the roadmap at all?

Hi,

Are you able to use the Vertex Map in Hair Density with standard C4D render?

If not, also OctaneRender cannot use them.

Anyway, Grayscale images are working as expected in Density channel, so just convert your Vertex Map to Grayscale texture:

Yeah, Vertex Maps works to control Density, Length, etc. with the Standard Renderer.

But thank you, I will use a greyscale map for now. Hope this will one day be supported. 😊

Ok, sorry, Vertex Maps are working correctly with Standard render, but it seems that there is the same issue also with RedShift, even after converting the Vertex Map to Vertex Color... so it seems that Maxon needs to revisit this part:

Ah, ok. That's interesting. They have some Legacy option called "Cinema 4D Hair Evaluation" in Redshift, but it doesn't seem to work. I'm guessing there's not a super high chance this will ever get fixed by Maxon.. 😓

I will continue to use b&w images for now. Thank you for your help. 😊
