I imagine having an older computer with two of these in, peacefully humming along in my basement, beaming data back and forth to my laptop. Possible?
Cheers

wireless gtx460

I think it's just wirelessly transmitting what a hdmi cable would normally transmit to your monitor.
Don't think it can be used on your laptop because you still need to control the computer which could be done with a wireless mouse+keyboard. Maybe you could somehow make it work on your laptop with some sort of remote desktop program, but then there's really no point in that graphics card (just get a normal one).

Win 7 64bit, GF 460 2GB, Intel quad, 4GB memory
I've worked with similar technology for wireless projector installations. Yes, it works. but can really impact the thoughput, range and performance of other nearby wireless devices.
I didn't see the wireless frequency listed on the page, I would guess that its either 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz. Typically these wireless video signals are simply transmitted continusly without accounting for other wireless device signals.
The number of antennas indicate multiple radios, so its own singnal will almost always get though, but it will also hog a much wider chunk of the wireless frequency bandwidth.
I doubt it would work from another room, let alone from a basement. I'd take whatever range they list on the marketing material and then divide it in half for a realistic range. Then cut that in half again for any wall or floor its broadcasting though.
Still, an interesting product and if it's on a differnt frequency than 2.4Ghz it'll be worth the look if its price is reasonable..

Win7 x64 - i7 920 - 6GB RAM - GTX470 - Blender - 3DCoat - Octane.
Did some research on that WHDI technology, Its a new 5Ghz Hi-Def signal.

That card is only one of many products due out this year that will support the new standard. I would take a wait and see approach on it. Read some reviews, Its still a new technology.
Being a 40Mhz channel in the 5Ghz band you shouldn't have as much trouble with other wireless devices like 802.11b/g/n or Wireless Keyboards/Mice.
Still, the best wireless keyboards/Mice are only good for up to 30 feet. I think that card has much further range.

If you're fantasizing about wireless PCI-EXPRESS then sorry to say no, it's not possible with this card (not that there's an alternative today AFAIK).trofaster wrote:Would this be of any use to people like us?

Secondly, chances are you don't have HDMI *input* on your laptop anyway, so their possible use for Octane is to let them hum in your basement, and watch them doing what Octane does from an external monitor with HDMI IN or from your HDTV in the living room. Hey that sounds very entertaining! I mean, some pals coming for a football match and when half-time break comes, it's chance to showoff... 'oh my rendering isn't done yet'
