Problem: Constant IPR switches during editing process may cause Blender and Octane Server to freeze (Application Hang). What is actually happening: Octane server may freeze when I try to start IPR, which also causes Blender to freeze, as IPR does not start and there's no "feedback" from the server. Octane server can't be terminated as usual (right-click) and can be terminated only with the task manager.
Sometimes it just say "Finalrender or other Rendered viewport is active" without any freezes, but both Blender and Octane Server need to be terminated via the task manager.

It occurs randomly regardless of the scene, ranging from an empty scene with a cube to complex projects. Nothing similar happens with a custom build.

Blender debug logs included, but they say nothing useful. Octane logs may indicate the culprit on NT_RENDERTARGET state change.

Specs:
[Blender 4.5.5 LTS]
[OctaneServerStudio 31.0 BETA]
[NVIDIA Studio driver 581.57]
[RTX 5080 + RTX 3080 Ti]

Annoying that this keeps happening with Nvidia drivers... which driver should I be using (Windows 10 - RTX 5090)?

Update; I'm reverting back to the previous studio driver: 581.57 - WHQL
Release Date: Tue Oct 14, 2025

I still get the server crashing when I try to render animations (using scenes built in 29.20) -- new scenes built in 30.9 seem touch and go at the moment.

I'm probably way late to the party, but Otoy seems to be an amorphous cloud of semi-useful information.

Right now I'm hoping to use Blender 5.0x with OctaneStudio Render (paid version) Add-On, so:

- How can I get notified when the latest-and-greatest version comes out?
- Is there any official chart cross-referencing compatibility with Nvidia Driver updates (Studio version, in my case)?
- If I need a consistently working commercial render product to use with Blender (monthly doner, here!) is Octane just not what I'm seeking?

Thanks, all!

The longterm safest bet is Cycles but up to now I don´t get comparable results. Maybe my lack of Cycles experience.

Either go for Cycles or accept the reality of the Otoy Universe with all the ups and downs.

New versions are always announced on the OctaneRender for Blender Facebook group (which I highly advice to join):

https://www.facebook.com/groups/octaneblenderplugin

The Facebook post always provides the link to the relative release post in the Release section of the forums:

Normally using the latest NVIDIA Drivers (Studio version) should be the way to go. But there are exception, just like it happened for the latest releases.

Stable versions should be used for work, test builds for "playing" with new features.

As I mentioned in other posts, the multiple Octane (2024, 2025 and now 2026 - addon and custom build!) and Blender (4 and now 5) versions are not helping stability for sure.

I'm reporting here the text of the post I made not so long ago:

Octane 2026.1 will be available as an addon only for Blender 5.0 (current 4.5.5 based version will be discontinued); no new custom builds will be released going forward.
We expect to release a TEST version of Octane 2026.1 for Blender 5.0 in approximately three weeks.

Once the Blender 5.0 integration is completed, development will focus exclusively on Blender 5.0.
The Octane 2026.1 addon for Blender 4.5.5 will not be maintained.

A new Octane 2025.5–based custom build (30.9) will be released soon.
This will be the final custom build release.

From that point on, no additional custom builds are planned.
Only updates and bug fixes for existing custom builds will continue.

Why this change is beneficial

This decision allows us to significantly reduce fragmentation across different builds and Blender versions, which in turn brings several concrete benefits:

Faster development and fixes: focusing on a single integration path allows issues to be identified and resolved more quickly.

Improved stability and consistency: fewer parallel branches mean less divergence in behavior between versions.

Better long-term maintenance: development effort can be concentrated where it matters most, instead of being spread across multiple custom builds.

More predictable releases: users can rely on a clearer roadmap with fewer version-specific caveats.

Stronger Blender 5.0 support: dedicating resources to Blender 5.0 ensures better compatibility with its new architecture and future updates.

At the same time, we remain committed to supporting users with ongoing projects by continuing to provide updates and bug fixes for existing 2025 custom builds.

Thanks Lino. How far out does it look at this point until we see the Test Version 2026.1 Addon for 5.0?
