Hi!

I want to render a scene looking through a window. The camera should focus the window so you can see for example waterdrops on it. But at the same time it should focus on an object outside, while having DOF for the other objects outside, for example trees.
How would i approach this?

Is there an option to exclude the window from the DOF?

Thanks in advance!

Hey there!

I'm not entirely sure I understand your request.
When you want to have "depth of field" so foreground/background blur you will need to set a focus point.
So you will have to choose wither your window or your background to be in focus. You can't have both in focus and out of focus. Unless you want a "split diopter" type of effect, where half the frame focuses on the window, the other on the background, there are settings for this in the camera settings on the render target.
If you want to have both in focus, then you can either set a really high fstop in the camera node, or disable depth of field in the rop settings, so everything will be in focus.

Does that answer your question?

Thanks for the answer! Split diopter is super cool, but not exactly what i am looking for.

Essentially, i want to have an object (the window) totally exluded from the DOF. But i guess thats not possible.

Yeah no that's not possible. Only way to do that is to render it separately and comp ontop of the footage. That being said, since that is physically not possible would it actually look good?
