I managed to get the file downloaded. I will need to investigate in detail tomorrow.

Hi Max
I found an issue when saving to EXR in that the Linear option was saving to sRGB, and the Tonemapped option was saving as Linear. I have fixed this in the test release below. Can you please tell me if it resolves your issue?

Hi Paul,
Unfortunately it did not, I still get the same cutoff at the end of the SDR range as before. Do you get the same result using my test files? I would not want to rule out a rhino settings issue yet.
In PS I open the EXR and press ctrl+alt+a to open the camera RAW editor. Top right It then shows the curves I put in the last post. I got EXR-iO installed though, that might change PS behavior somewhat. Though I'm sure its got nothing to do with my issue since it works with the Standalone output.
Thanks a lot for looking into this so quickly

I am not a PS user. However I loaded your scene into the Rhino plugin and saved at a resolution off 1000x1000 with 200 samples and exported as Linear 32bit EXR. Then I did the same in Octane Standalone. I compared the curves and results in https://viewer.openhdr.org/ and they appear to me to be identical. The saved filesizes are different due to the compression settings being different when saving.
Here are the two files....

Hi Paul!
I downloaded your EXRs, put them in viewer.openHDR too, and compared them. They have the same issue mine had.
What's concerning is this spike. It indicates that, while the file is technically HDR 32bit, it only really uses the SDR space, and clips values that go beyond SDR White to what would be 255/255/255 in SDR, thus losing the benefit HDR offers in the first place.
Given that you get the same results, I believe this to be a bug in the plugin :/

Hi Max
I was able to get a closer match by saving in Octane Standalone with Force Tone Mapping ENABLED and Premultiplied Alpha DISABLED. Does that work for you? The Rhino plugin is saving with these settings as they are the defaults in the Octane SDK, but I see that they are not the defaults in Octane Standalone.
Thanks

Hi Paul,
That would not solve my problem, as the type of output from Standalone is what I need. I need a way to save the render from Rhino that gives the same result Standalone does. The HDR range is necessary for my current project, and going through Standalone all the time is a lot of extra work and data I'd rather not have to deal with

If you can tell me if that resolves the difference between Standalone and the Rhino plugin, then I can change the Rhino plugin to export with the settings that match Octane Standalone.
Thanks

Thanks Max. I feel like we are going around in circles a little with this.
If you save the current render in Octane Standalone to EXR 32 bit, it defaults:
- Force Tone Mapping to OFF
- Premultiplied Alpha to ON
But if you Export Renderpasses in Octane Standalone to EXR 32, it defaults:
- Force Tone Mapping to ON
- Premultiplied Alpha to OFF
So something seems amiss here. I think I need to go back to OTOY to dig into this a little deeper. I will report back here once I know more.
Sorry for the wait getting this resolved.
