This isn't actually supporting rest attributes at all, it's just specifying a reference frame.

It should actually use rest attributes; this should work on meshes with changing point counts. This is how every other engine does it. That's why rest attribute is important, so you can use procedural shading without swimming on objects that having changing topology.

This implementation is just like "pin material" from c4d, this is not actually rest attribute implementation.

Also performed a test render on the M4 Max and 2025 was a few seconds slower. I guess it is very scene dependent

I second this! The choice of implementing the "rest" position as an animation frame is a really strange one and would like to understand the reasoning behind it. I don't know any other render that has it implemented this way and I think it's for a reason - this is really limiting.

It’s actually completely misleading. They call it support for ‘rest attribute’ but it’s not even using rest attribute.

It’s just pinning a texture to a deforming mesh, and it doesnt even work with triplanar and bump/disp.

It would be great to have an input into the realistic camera to create custom lenses.

many lenses are readily available.
