Cinema4D version 2024.1-[R3] latest stable (11.10.2024)

Is there any approximate date of when 2024.2 will be arriving? I'm especially excited about Decals and Texture Rest Position.
And an additional question about Decals....will Octane Decals support displacement similar to how Corona handles decals?

Without digging into the shader too much, it looks to me like the "Base and Specular" sub-material has its Specular Map channel set to zero. Try setting it to 1. My render is a bit blown out, but you get the idea.Heerko wrote:I just opened a scene which I made a month ago. And suddenly my Octane Composite Material Metallic looks completely different (HELP).
What has changed is I'm on the newest Octane Renderer, I migrated to a clean installed Windows 11 (coming from Win10), so also newer Nvidia drivers I guess. I'm on C4D 2025.0.2
Could someone please help? Sample scene of a sphere with the material included.

Hi, guys
What's the current most recommended version of Nvidia driver for Octane?
Saw the new 566.14 Studio version today, but not ssu if it is recommended to upgraded it now.
Any recommendations?

You are right guys! Specular Map is set to 0 in all my materials which have metallic sub materials. Is this somehow forced to 0 by an update?
Anyways, thank you guys for taking a look at it. It was driving me nuts

I think it really depends on exactly what has changed between the specific versions you move between. The larger the version change, the greater chance that there isn't a simple 1:1 correspondence between old nodes and new. A lot of changes can be "under the hood" and invisible to us users, but that involve significant changes to internal logic and data flow. The devs try to account for those changes, automatically shuffling data paths and rebuilding logic structures when opening/reinterpreting older versions, but they are only human and can't predict every scenario, and sometimes simply miss things.Heerko wrote:@Tim0042 and @frankmci

To get a solid answer from the Otoy folks and to help them catch and fix the problem for you and everyone, you could submit a bug report including specifically which version of Octane the material was created in and which version you updated to where the channel info changed, as well as provide a minimalist sample scene that demonstrates the issue.
Since you are talking about pre-built GSG materials, there's the additional complication that you don't know what version those materials were built in, or how many generations of conversion they have been through and the resulting awkward artifacts they may have already accumulated before you used them. The parallel, redundant color correction nodes in this copper material look like the product of one of those processes. (You see this a lot in these types of conversions. Since there's no possible way to foresee every permutation, they often do it the most reliable, straight-forward, brute force way instead of the most elegant and efficient way. Inefficient is better than broken.) If you can reliably reproduce the behavior from assets built directly in Octane vX and opened in Octane vY, there's a much better chance of finding and fixing the problem.
I took way too long to answer, "Is this forced by an update?" with, "Well, it's complicated..."

I like long answers haha! Is there a way to see in which version you made an Octane material/scene?

Not that I know of.

Long Answer:
Not that I know of, and that's why I recommended building a minimal, reproducible test scene yourself so that you know exactly how and where it was made. The GSG example you gave is a Composite Material with three Sub Materials, one of which is Metallic, and it's that Metallic sub material that seems to be losing its Specular Map channel data.
I would probably start by building three test materials from scratch in the previous Octane version right of the bat:
1 - Composite Material with three sub slots, a Glossy sub in slot 1 and Metallic subs in slots 2 & 3, which is the same root structure as, but overall much simpler than the GSG material
2 - A Composite Material with only a single Metallic sub material in slot 1
3 - A single, non-composite Metallic Material. Make all materials from scratch in the previous Octane version and set a non zero value in all the Specular Map channels.
Open the scene in the updated Octane
If none of the new materials exhibit the problematic behavior, then you can be pretty sure it's something weird about the history of the GSG production, and it's probably not something that's worth Otoy's time to track down and fix. It stinks, but in that case you probably just have to deal with it. (It would be neighborly to let GSG know about the issue with their product, though.) On the other hand, if any of the test materials you build do exhibit the problem in a repeatable way, then there's definitely an identifiable issue and Otoy will probably want to address it as soon as is feasible. Next step is to submit a well documented bug report with your findings.
The more thoroughly you can troubleshoot and document the problem before submitting it, the more likely it is to be quickly resolved. Even if it isn't directly resolved, the process often yields a greater understanding that will serve you well in the future.

WINDOWS STUDIO+ DEMO 2024.1-[R2] (R21-R2025) cause Cinema 4D 2025 to crash during loading. Cinema 2024 the same - crash during loading or crash during Octane rendering start. Soo long time without Octane and I forgot about crashes
