Hi there,
if I scrub the timeline while IPR is open, it's really slow. It seems that Octane iterates through EVERY geo nodes available before updating. Is there a way to prevent that?
I'm using Octane 20.2.5.0
Best wishes,
Thomas

You need to turn off updates in the IPR so it only updates everything on the OBJ level. SOP updates and such are slow even for simple things

Hi,

Thanks! I disabled it and need to click "Reload" manually. Then, IPR does only load the geo needed.

Thank you!

Best wishes,

Hey guys, running into the same problem here with Houdini 20.5.278 and Octane 2024.1.0.1.

It takes forever for the IPR to load up and I remember it used to be much snappier in C4D.

I'm fairly new to Houdini but know enough to get by - is there any other way to speed up performance that I'm missing?

Are you turning off the update settings in the IPR window or in the Octane render ROP, or both?

Thanks!

Hi futoryan, it will depend on the scene complexity and system specs. The first load on first launch would be the longest but should be faster after that.

Which OS are you using? Can you send a sample problem scene?

There are some updates coming for IPR which may help for the next builds. You can try disable some of the updates within the IPR window - depending on what you are doing.

Hey Ricky, thanks for following up.

I think the scene was just heavy, I had about 500 RBD objects (medium poly coffee beans) being loaded at once. It's also possible that I had Octane installed incorrectly. I was using the houdini.env to point to the Octane plugin, but have since installed it via packages and it seems more stable that way. Still, performance felt a lot snappier in C4D, but I guess that's just how things are sometimes. Thanks again!

My system specs are:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz 4.01 GHz
Installed RAM 64.0 GB
GPU 2x GTX 1080 Ti
