Hello all,

we are facing a super strange problem with one of our machines.
It is an Intel based machine with i9 13gen processor, and RTX 4090 (MSI Supreme Liquid X).
All was working fine and out of the blue Octane Render stopped working (plugin from Maya). It just renders couple of samples and it gets stuck. We cannot finish any render.
However if you turn RTX Acceleration OFF it is working but super slow.
We tried:
1. New Windows and all new software updates and different versions (maya, Octane, win...)
2. Different GPU (RTX 2060) and problem persists
3. Checked processor, RAM, SSD and other components with stress tests and everything seems fine and normal.

Everything else is working fine it just wont render with RTX on in Octane. If anyone has some idea how can we solve the problem please help!

Recent NVIDIA drivers cause a lot of problems. If you have new ones try 552.22 version from March which is recommended nowadays.
CPU – i9 13900KF, 128GB RAM, GPU – RTX 4090
System – Windows 11

Thanks for the suggestion J.C.

Weirdly enough with that driver works well. Mystery is that on another machine we have the same card and we use same software with new drivers and all is good.

One thing that happens when you turn off RTX is that you free up more Vram. Maybe check with GPU-Z that the system has enough Vram with RTX on.

Not a Vram issue, the scene is for example just one plane and one ball without textures without anything, and still it was not rendering with rtx on.
Seems like the driver solved it, i don't know how or why.

I just experienced this and could not figure out issue till I read this post - was terrified my GPU's (one 3090 and one 3080ti) were failing because all my Octane programs (Standalone & Octane Blender) were crashing with GPU's failed message.

Anytime I started to manipulate the viewport Octane would freeze. In Blender Octane I had to force quit the Octane Server because right clicking to exit would not work. Running Octane Bench (when it would complete) was giving me a little more than half my usual score.

I noticed issue on Nvidia Studio Driver 560.70 so I update to 580.81 but still had issue. I also tried Studio Driver 555.85 to no avail. Only downgrading to the version mentioned here - 552.22 - helped, but that is a Game driver I did not see a Studio Version for that release.

A FEW QUESTIONS / SUGGESTIONS:

This is such a serious issue why isn't this post or similar put into a sticky and why doesn’t Otoy list this on front page of forum or other news warning customer's so that they do not waste an entire day like I did testing their GPU's?

ALSO: Is Otoy actively working with NVIDIA on this to resolve the issue so we're not forced to stay with older driver versions? Other applications may require or benefit from the latest drivers. In my testing it only seemed to be Octane that suffered from this issue.

Hi,
sorry for the hassle!

I've created a discussion in the c4doctane section of the forum about this issue here:
viewtopic.php?f=30&t=83603

At the beginning, it seemed that only c4doctane plugin was affected, and unfortunately, I cannot make it sticky.

Anyway, the devs are working with Nvidia for fixing the issue asap.

ciao,
Beppe
