But this wouldn´t be unbiased any more, right?SamCameron wrote:Would be nice to have a parameter to control the shadow intensity aswell as the shadow blur for the 2.4.

Would be interest to tweak a little bit some scenes, sometimes the shadows are too sharp or too dark.
@Sam,
If your shadows are too dark, then tweak gamma / exposure, use pathtracing... I don't see your idea happening (not in the time frame you have given them, anyway

In that case lower the power of your blackbody/HDRI emission and/or choose a less contrasty camera response preset & change the exposure.SamCameron wrote:sometimes the shadows are too sharp or too dark.
I´m not sure if it will be ever possible to integrate parameters like shadow blur & opacity in fully unbiased renderings, as they´re based on IBL e.g.

Yes, Octane is unbiased rendering engine but when client/director ask for lighter shadows this is where trouble starts. They don't want to know if this is an unbiased result or whatever, they want a lighter shadows...... you can play with gamma and response curves but this is not a solution.
You wouldn't have that problem if they just simply add the buttons for "Reflection pass", "Diffuse without the shadows" and "Shadow pass" alongside the "Occlusion pass" button that already exist. This way you can adjust shadows/reflections/colors as you like in post-processing stage. Those 3 basic passes are a must for the compositing to be successful. If they do that i guarantee a large number of studios and production houses would jump to use Octane. It would be nice to have 32-bit exr output but its mentioned so many times that i don't want to go there.
Sorry for my english, all the best

arion render allready support all of the d features u listed,and more
compositing is almost useless without render passes, i hope octane team wld look into these critical needs.
oh and render layers is equaliy important, having d ability to isolate any part of ur scene, and render just that instead of the entire scene
