Missing normals?

I needed to use octane in obj context and ran into an insurmountable obstacle.
On any geometry when rendering in ipr there is no smoothing - as if there are no normals.
Even subdividing doesn't help. What can it be?

You can see an example on the screenshot.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for the post. Would you please share your hip file?
We are unable to replicate the issue. Try the Polygon Mesh mode.
Maybe the scene needs to push the refresh/updateScene button in the IPR button

In the future, please post OctaneRender Houdini-related issues here (viewforum.php?f=103)
to keep the issue/bug tracking easier for us.

Cheers

Thanks for the quick response. Here is the file.

To help you test the issue more accurately, I'm sharing the system:
macos 14.4.1
Houdini 20.0.653
Octane Solaris 2023.1.3.0

Hi Michael,

Thanks so much for the scene.
We can confirm the issue appears only on macOS OctaneRender 2023.x build.
However, it has been fixed in 2024.1 Alpha 4.

If we use the SOP import node, the assets seem to render correctly in Solaris LOP workflow.
Let us know if you want the Alpha build but we do not recommend using it for production.

Cheers
Kind Regards

Hello. Thanks for the information.

I can confirm that everything works as expected in Solaris.

Just to clarify, this bug is present in all macOS OctaneRender Houdini 2023.x builds?
So all these Houdini builds are basically unusable?

Hi Michael,

Happy to help and thanks for clarifying.
No, we managed to find the 2023.1 build that seems to render the mesh correctly.

However, you would need to roll back to H20.0.547.
