I'm planning to buils a new computer based on the new 2nd gen core i7 or aka Sandy bridges. Do you think that there will be any issues? I think this is a perfect solution because I can use the integrated graphics for all regular computing and put two GTX480 or 580's dedicated to octanes render. If there is no forseeable issue, I think I will be ready to buy the software already because right now I have a QX9650 based PC and all motherboards for this have only one PCIe slot which makes me hold off into getting an Octane Render license.
Any idea will surely be appreciated.

I don't see any issues what CPU or CPU/GPU hybrids you use, as long as you have one or more Nvidia CUDA capable GPUs installed it should work fine.
You might not be able to use integrated graphics to drive your monitor, and will have to connect your display to an nvidia GPU when using octane.
Thanks for the info. I just thought that the graphics part of the new processor is strong enough. I guess getting the regular Core i7 would be sufficient and might save me some money in the process.

I'm looking forward the same kind of info; would be great to have the integrated graphics on sandy bridge drive the display and leave the pci-e for the cuda cards.. less power consumption, more expandability options and better gui responsiveness (at least if you're planning to use cuda cards to both calculate and drive the display)..
if you go for the cpu/gpu combination, please let us know
Hi TheOracle, could you add more information about youe system, please.
Like, mainboard, did you use the inbuild gpu of i7 for your display, performance of your 3d application?
