Hi Beppe,
thanks a lot for sharing the new Alpha - very promising!
I did a couple of tests with some of our real production scenes and the performance of the Metal version VS Cuda seems to depend very much on the actual scene.
Although I cannot share rendered images, I can share some graphs with you.
Interestingly, the most complex scene (sail ship) runs very fast on Metal.
Best,
David

Hi David,
thanks for sharing your tests.
Yes, the speed is scene dependent.
Maybe you can share a screenshot of the info-bar per scene loaded in Live View, in order to have a rough idea about the scene complexity, like poly count, memory used, ecc.
About Network rendering, what type of network connection do you have between PC and M3?
ciao,
Beppe

Hi all,
c4doctane 2023.1.2 is out:
https://render.otoy.com/plugindownloads ... .2_OSX.zip
You can find the release notes here:
viewtopic.php?f=85&t=82847
This version also fixes the issue of force quitting after closing C4D, if RedShift is activated.
(Big thanks to Peter Bokor for the great help on this)
Happy GPU rendering, and Happy New Year

Hi Beppe,
happy now year! Sorry, but I forgot to make screenshots of the info bar. But I'll redo the tests ASAP.
The connection was WIFI 6E, not ideal, next time it'll be Gigabit Ethernet.
Best,
David

I know I sound like a broken record and I appreciate the work that’s been done …but can we please put 2023.X to rest and get onto 2024.x soon.. please….. On the mac side we’ve been waiting three years or more for Network rendering. Refining, 2023.x Forever is getting old quick!..I hope the New year will bring finally a good workflow for those without an M3 with is RT cores..

c4doctane 2024.1-Alpha 2 has been published tonight:
viewtopic.php?f=85&t=82857
Please note that you need a Studio+ license to be able to use Render-Nodes on Win-Linux, and this is a test alpha version, so not ready for production.
Use it carefully since it is possible that some features will be different in final stable 2024.1 version, and you can have issues to open scenes created with Alpha version in future.
Happy Mac GPU rendering!
ciao,
Beppe
Is there a link to the alpha 2024.x render node too?
Is this the correct one?

SWEET.. its working! - FINALLY!!! - got beachballs when installing octane in the /applications/maxon/…..plugins path but was better once i move the octane folder to the other path /user/preferences/maxon…. plugins
I assume its a read/write issue with anything in /applications.* since i needed even as admin privileges to write the octane folder to the /applications/maxon….plugins location… so heads up.
A test scene took 45sec just with the mac studio ultra 24cpu and 76gpu by itself took only like 24 sec adding the PC with 4090
This is fun!

Great to hear it is working for you too
