Environment HDRI not always loading

Hi,

We're running Cinema4D 2023.2.2 // Build 2023_6e264f0cee3c_902435294 + Octane 2022.1.2-[R3], and we're experiencing some odd behavior across multiple render nodes, namely that HDRI does not always load reliably. Environment texture is loaded from the centralized NAS.

The error is pretty random across nodes with different hardware configs, and usually maybe 3-5 frames out of say 150 frames will not load environment correctly (basically it loads black), rerender will most of the time render the frame correctly the first time.

The randomness is driving me nuts. Has anybody else seen this behavior?

Any insight is appreciated!

I noticed the same using simple disable/enable Octane Sky Object - it sometimes appears to load empty HDRI map. It can even freeze sometimes during sky object switching.

Thanks, for confirming.

Something funny it most definately going on with env. For what it's worth, we've had a somewhat related problem with having two envs, one with actual GI env and one with a solid color, as a backplate. Changing the color input node from C4Ds native color node to Octane native RGB Spectrum seems to have fixed the problem. At least we so far there has been no frames looking odd.

That overlayed with the env HDRI not loading made things extra hard to diagnose. Now we're stuck on the HDRI randomly not loading.

@aoktar Any insight into what could be causing this? I think we started having the problem when we upgraded out pipeline to Octane 2022.X.X.

I'm having the same issue with a single render node. I'm using C4D Team Render and when i send the same scene to the queue but in 10 different takes, there will be 3 to 4 out of 10 with environment loading issues. The teamer render client logs shows that the asset is correctly loaded.

Every render is a gamble nowadays and i just keep re-adding them to the queue until it happens to render as expected.
