one of the many reasons why I didn't get the BF deal this year and let my license lapse after owning for about 3-4 years. Blender plugin seems underdeveloped and since I'm shifting away from C4D, I don't need it there. I checked in here to see if there was encouraging news on Octane for Blender.

Octane for Blender is fine and I find it a bit more stable than in C4D. I keep playing with both as I do more character work than anything else and C4D is becoming less usefull.

The addon for V4.0 will be released this week. It will be compatible with both Blender 3.6 and 4.0.2.

What do you mean by underdeveloped?

means that we are still fighting with the betas and there is no clear roadmap for stable addon release. I switched from C4D to Blender and I kept my Octane studio subscription just to support OTOY and eventually release a stable blender add-on.

A "Stable" addon release depends on several factors, and while we're doing our best to improve the addon version, there are some important factors you may be missing when using the term "underdeveloped".

First, there's a reason why the custom build version is still actively developed. The addon version requires more time to reach the same level.

We also need to take care not only of both the custom build/addon version, but also consider Blender Foundation updates and Octane Standalone versions.

The "roadmap" for the addon is very simple. All features have been implemented already. And that was some huge task already, as you may imagine. Now we need to solve any issue with the implemented features. We're listening to all the suggestions coming from advanced users currently testing the software and working hard to get those implemented.
