You wouldn't believe how many issues this has caused me in the past getting around this issue with Octane. I had a convoluted way of comping a background plate using big sphere +side node which still recieved the lighting from HDRI, but there are ray epsilon issues with this method. Doing in post not an option for me 90% of the time.
Vray finite dome actually reacts to the camera in pan + zoom unlike traditional hdri's.
And as a side note, Chaos guys are absolutely killing it with features. I tested out their precedural cloud sky and my jaw dropped.
