Hi everyone,

I'm trying to render a static VDB but the steps that are in the documentation no longer work. :(
Specifically, when we create a workspace and bring in both Volume item and VDBVoxel items, there's no way to connect them if you alredy have any octane overides.
If you do that connection first, when you create any material overide the connection is again lost and the nodes change.
I've also tested not adding any overrides, and then viewport is unresponsive and modo freezes.

Is there a workaround?

Thanks,

Paul Brown

It sounds like you might just have the "show item relationship" toggle disabled.

Older versions of the plugin would unintentionally toggle this off when overrides were created, but I think this was fixed at some point.

If that's not it, can you post a screenshot, and a link to the docs you are trying to follow?

If the freeze is happening in Octane, can you post a scene and steps to get this freeze? If it's a modo freeze, you'd need to let Foundry know

Gosh I knew this had to be something very simple, thank you Funk!
It was the "relationship" toggle you mentioned.

After fixing that, I now get no render. It takes a while to respond, so I am guessing it might be my VDB or my render setup.
Should the volume just render after plugging those in? Or do I need to create the Volume item mask as per the docs? (I am using v2022.1.2 and the latest modo Plugin)

It depends on the VDB, but technically you should see something (after restarting octane)

You need to add the item mask to the VOLUME item and add an override for full control though
