Caustics from a plate/HDRI are rather futile. The renderer can't make a use of them, aside from reflecting them on glossy assets, and will have to calculate them internally using renderer's lights and materials.
usual scenario is product render where caustics are reflected onto transparent ground. is there a way to capture these?
