Kevin watch the whole video with John there is major problem
Hi,
It seems to be reproducible on my end. Standalone 2022.1 XB4 with a glass cup and metallic plane, caustics are no longer converging, but expectedly do when I plug a basic diffuse material.
I've written on Octane's Caustics here in case some parameters are ambiguous. That said, this seems to be either a limitation or a bug. I haven't investigated much further.
PS: wrong forum category.

Hi,
As previously said, in order to obtain reduced render times, a correct setting is necessary.
Environment/lights:
In your scene the environment set up is incorrect:
Here is the information on how to proceed correctly:
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=78198&p=403275&hilit=+sun#p403275
Materials:
Allow caustics option, should be used with materials that produce caustics.
Random IOR values in materials can also generate artifacts.
Here a good list of IOR materials:
https://refractiveindex.info/
Also never set specular 1 (or 255 color), never set roughness= 0 (0 color)
Kernel:
a correct use of the Kernel setting reduces render times such as activating adapting sampling.
Attached the profile of the render setting.
(bottle preset-rps.rar)
As you can see in my attached clip, using a couple of RTX 2070s and fast render times, at 800 samples the image is pretty clean of noise, even without denoising.
I hope it helps.
Regards
Paride

paride are you crazy? you literally just posted Gabriele's old help ticket posts I have already tried all that it doesn't fix the problems there is no problems with my light setup and people use color range 1 to 0 all the time in other render engines with no problems also your using a old scene not the new one I posted with updated correct materials that are physically accurate. Shame on you for tryin to hide programmers bad coding by claiming user error your just like Gabriele trying to not expose bad programming for what it is.
Such inappropriate and unprofessional attitude is reprehensible. Offending or being aggressive towards the OTOY staff is most likely against the forum community rules.madcat117 wrote:Shame on you for tryin to hide programmers bad coding by claiming user error your just like Gabriele trying to not expose bad programming for what it is.
Have you looked at my reply? I've managed to reproduce the absence of caustics convergence when switching from a diffuse/glossy surface to metallic. I've reported it and will update whenever I get new information.
