Hey there,

I just wanted to extend my maintenance and got this error: "License Upgrade - License Upgrades unavailable."

Is there a solution to this? Thank you in advance!

Permanent licenses are no more available.

At the end of the annual maintenance, your licenses stay to v2020, latest version you can install is 2020.2.5, and you cannot install versions from 2021.1 or greater.

The licenses scheme has changed, and reduced to only one type.

Now there is only one Studio+ Subscription type and you get one year of Studio+ license for Standalone and every DCC plugins, plus 10x Render-Nodes for Network rendering, plus World Creator Octane edition (export limited to .orbx), plus some KitBush kits, plus Cascadeur, EmberGenFX, Architron, Mol 3D, and UX3D gITF Scene Toolkit, OctaneX, and RNDR service, for 238,99€/year, or 23,99E/month.

You can no longer buy the boxed license but shouldn't you be able to extend maintenance?
I know that you couldn't extend maintenance unless it was close to expiring, as in it wouldn't show any licenses to extend.

Did you change it so you can't extend it at all? If so then there is a lot of false information.

About Perpetual licenses, they are no more purchasable, but you can continue to purchase the annual extension.

äh what? As galleon27 already mentioned. You said it was possible to extend the maintenance, but new licenses are no longer for sale.

I even got an eMail a few days ago saying this:

This is a friendly reminder that one or more of your licenses are approaching the end of their maintenance period. You should extend and/or upgrade your licenses before the maintenance period expires to ensure uninterrupted access to the latest versions of OctaneRender.

I have time left till 5th of January. Would be cool if there was clarification from Otoy till then. I'm also a bit puzzled that I would fall back on Version 2020, since the current Version within my maintenance is 2021.1.7

BTW somehow the Unlock button is gone too. So hopefully this is only due to some bugs ins the backend.

Hi Beppe,

thank you for clarification. Thats kind of a bummer, because I thought I have a choice and did not take advantage of the Black Friday deal. All in all I have to say, that I'm a big fan of clear communication. It would be perfectly fine for me If there was a eMail saying something like "We are sorry, but you have to get our subscription now". But doing such things silently is a bad business practice Imho.

Ok, the same just happened to me, when we wanted to upgrade our maintenance for our perpetual license. I understand that Otoy wants to convert all accounts to subscriptions but am not entirely clear how it is possible to reset any perpetual owner under paid maintenance back to a 2020 license. I mean how is that ok? We still paid full maintenance fees just for the reason to stay up to date on our versions, so if we like to stay perpetual, shouldn't we stay on the lates version we paid maintenance for? In my case I paid maintenance fees twice in order to use the lates offered version, which is 2022.1 So now if I don't upgrade to the subscription version, I would default back to 2020????? Why??? Can you please explain the thought process behind this? Thanks so much.

We are retiring boxed licenses from the shop page shortly now that 2021.1.1 is stable. We released 2020 perpetual for the subset of users that wanted to have a perpetual option past V4 (which was originally meant to be the final perpetual update as a free upgrade from V3).

OToy is too rigid. Due to a personal situation I was not able to renew my license at the price paid the previous year because I missed the date it hasn't even been one month and OToy is denying to renew my license fee at the price I had just paid the previous year.

It's almost identical too telling OToy; "yeah, I had a serious situation in my life so I missed the renewal date" and OToy reply; well, your screwed sorta like the clip in the movie, planes, trains and automobiles. One would think like in the Wizard of Oz that they would have a heart but it's unfortunately made of Tin.

I'm sorry to hear that you had a tough time. But don't be sad. The button was disabled before. So you wouldn't have been able to extend the maintenance even if you tried it in time.
