Yes you've described it perfectly! The script doesn't successfully plug any map to the roughness slot. Simple as that.
We're gonna keep trying other combinations to try and find if we're just missing the mark but we've tried a lot of stuff already.
The console log simply states this:

Also just downloaded
OctaneRender Enterprise 2021.1.6 for C4D and this particular version creates 2 new Octane Materials from one single C4D material but that doesn't bother me very much since I can just delete unused materials to trim these glitchy excess mats.
