Hello,

I have been experiencing many crashes with Octane PR14 / Cinema 4D R26 - especially when using the node editor. I could somewhat reduce the crashes by not having the live viewer and Node editor open at the same time.

Now I have been wondering if the new Octane builds are optimised for M1/2 chips or for AMD GPUs or if that does not matter at all. If it does matter, which build works best with AMD Radeon 16 GB?

My work station:
iMac Pro (2017)
3 GHz 10-Core Intel Xeon W
128 GB 2666 MHz DDR4
Radeon Pro Vega 64 16 GB

I am sure I can find an old crashlog and if not recreate a crash very quickly.

Thanks a Lot,
Alex

Hi Alex,
unfortunately, Apple Metal driver with AMD GPUs is not stable when you work in both 3D space (Live View) and 2D space (Node Editor) at the same time.
Please try to use the Attribute editor, instead of the Node Editor, as much as possible, and pause the Live View if you need to work in Node Editor.

OctaneX 2022.1 native for M1/M2 doesn't have this issue.

Hi Beppe, thank you for confirming what I have already suspected.

Is it worth trying older versions (PR 13) or is every version unstable with AMD GPU?

OctaneX PR14 is the more stable version for AMD GPUs under macOS Monterey.
And in OctaneX PR13, AI Denoiser is not working, so better to stay with PR14.
