Hello,
I have to render some chromed components in a white background.
So no pieces to be reflected...
Even worse some of them are squared (big flat surfaces).
It's the tipical situation of a mirror reflecting... nothing ! You can't see it !
Any idea of the setup of the material (or even the scene) in order to get a chrome-look apparence... I tryied to add a thin layer but the color is too brownish...
Thanks.

You can make the chrome (a little) dirty or put something (to reflect) behind the camera, not visible on the render (if applicable).

Thanks matej,
Using something to be reflected is normally a very good idea but I don't know if my case is normal...
Here is a part that has to be included into the animation (I forgot to mention that I have to render an animation, I don't know wether this could give someone an idea).
You can see that this part has a very big surface that acts as a mirror. Everything added into the scene to be reflected here will disturb everything...
I can't obtain a more greysh color... any idea ?
Thanks.

Anything you can introduce into the scene (additional lights, objects) could help to make it more realistic to some extent, but if the environment needs to be totally white, than that's all that the chrome will reflect. Try to use some dirt maps (leakings or dust like) on the specular channel of the material - that will alleviate the problem a little, but still - chrome is 95% reflections, so...
Sorry I couldn't be more of help.

I already thought it's a difficult task. Maybe it's better to find another neutral background, instead of pure white I mean.
Anyway don't worry, I really appreciated your idea, many thanks.

try these HDRIs (these are free)..they are pretty OK for what you want to achieve..rotate hdri until you have a white backdrop...
(not sure if this will be appropriate for animation..depends on your camera path..)
