You seem to misunderstand my stance on the Octane on Mac situation. I didn't invest macOS for 3d rendering that's what PCs are for, it was for stability. Otoy did fine on Mac CUDA until Nvidia pulled the plug with Apple. Now Apple plugged the plug on AMD fair enough. Octane X isn't ready for Mac that's all I needed to know.[/quote]leonthegod wrote:
Ah, Ok. I misunderstood. We are in a similar situation. We don't need our Macs to be beefy render machines, just decent workstations. We have Linux/Windows machines for in-house/network rendering, and have been using Otoy's RNDR quite a lot, now that it is relatively easy and economical.
The one thing I'm hoping Otoy can pull off is network render compatibility between Octane OS X and other OS versions. If that works, the rest is pretty irrelevant. In the mean time, we've got enough other hardware to keep us busy. If/when there is an official, shipping version of Octane X that supports inter-OS network rendering, we will probably buy a decent Mac Studio machine to check it out and go from there as older hardware retires. We'd certainly like to stay on Macs for production; stability and ease of support/maintenance is a big part of that. Dealing with PCs can be a huge time suck and pain in the ass, but if we have to go that way, we will.
