Hi all -
Just a heads up if you're using the latest Cinema and Octane that scenes should use the "basic" color management set to linear for things to work normally, but note that if you send that scene to the render queue > close out of that scene > if the new.c4d file that opens uses OCIO instead of "basic" - the Octane scene in the render queue will start to have incorrect colors.
Easy fix to set the new.c4d to use basic like default, but if you're like me you might have different settings, and it took some time to find this behavior.

Me too but I can only speak to the program's behavior and end result and allow you to guess as to what’s happening internally. The behavior is as follows:
Correct: Incorrect:
Some light reading if you like to understand further, but I don't believe they address this specific issue:

- Add an Octane scene with C4D’s “basic” color management to the Render Queue
Render a few frames from the queue with that same scene still open in cinema. (these frames are correct)
Close out of that scene and let the render queue continue.
The untitled.C4D file that automatically opens in the background can be set to use “OCIO” color management
If the open scene is set to "OCIO" the frames coming out of the render queue appear to have gone through an incorrect transform resulting in washed-out colors.

It is oddly solely affecting the "swatch".
1. Is it made of Octane materials with or without texture files?
2. Anything in the Cinema 4D / Octane logs?

On such topic in such context, manuals and documentations are often some of the least reliable informative content.james_conkle wrote: Some light reading if you like to understand further, but I don't believe they address this specific issue:

Yes isn't that interesting - There's no image texture driving color only info channels like bump and opacity. Every color including the RGB balls and the makeup palettes can be traced back to an Octane RGB generator.
I thought you'd get some amusement from their documentation
