Hello,
I'm about to propose to my boss to rent Octane Renderer but I need some extra details to be sure about the solution I'll ask him to pay...
I mainly work remotely since Covid19 on a laptop (understand that it sucks for rendering on gpu or cpu). Here is the setup I'll ask :
- 1 license for my laptop
- 1 render node license for a pc built with 2xGPUs (RTX2080) that will stay in the office
- VPN connection from Master to Slave to use Network rendering (with the hope to use LiveViewer Network rendering for quick render iteration inside Cinema4)
The office local network is high speed (10 Gigabit Ethernet I think) but my internet connection is not good (down: 22 mbps / up: 10mbps).
We are on Windows 10 and using Cinema4D R19 (going to update to R21)
My questions are :
1. How can I know how heavy is the 3D scene that Octane will send through the internet ?
2. How to calculate the amount of data sent back from the slave to the master ? (it depends on the image size I ask to render I guess ?)
3. These to questions to know which internet speed is needed to work smoothly between Master ans slave ?
Thank you very much for your help and sorry if I'm not at the right place of the forum !
Which internet speed to Network rendering remotely by VPN ?

Hi,
you should need at least 1Gbps of internet speed and a special daemon setup for this.
Better to have 2x machines in the office, connected via Ethernet 10G for internal Net rendering, and use TeeamViewer or any other similar service to connect to the c4doctane workstation and render-node remotely via laptop
ciao Beppe

Hello Beppe, thank you for the help !
So, I understand my poor home connexion will be a bottleneck...
In the solution you give, wouldn't it be simpler to have only one machine with octanec4d running and use it remotely by teamviewer ?
I would need only one license and one machine to setup, no ?

Yes sure, but you can also have more machines connected in Net render in the office, if you need more rendering power.
Happy GPU rendering,
ciao Beppe
