Hi Jim,

Just the version before was supporting Maya 2018, any reason why this one is not? would be great to have support for Maya 2018 cause we and some companies stills using old autodesk licenses and not updating to subscription which means they keep Maya 20018 with all internal tools.

Unless Otoy have agreement with Autodesk to push the user of Octane update the dcc soft I don't see a solide reason to just stop the support of 2018?

Please let us know more information about that.

Best,
Jo

It has been always like this for Maya plugin since its creation. Only four versions of Maya are supported by any version of the plugin (current one plus three previous ones). This is the Otoy policy for Maya plugin.
Maya has a lot of API changes, new and deprecated features with every new major version - so it's a huge burden (sometimes even not possible) to properly support old and new Maya versions at the same time by the plugin (even four of them), sometimes sacrificing some general speed or usability improvements in the plugin just because of supporting some old legacy Maya versions.
So if you need to use old Maya version - you can use an old Octane plugin version too. It's logical you'd have less features in both of them. But new plugin versions will progress much better, without being dragged back by old legacy Maya versions.

Hi Jim,

Yes, true it was every 4 versions, I was thinking because the version before did changed that much on the actually version in terms of standalone. But I get you want support Maya 2023.
I guess if we could have support on Maya 2018 until there is substential change on standalone feature that require new Maya the change would be fine.

Our problem is Autodesk they made all perpetual licenses under 2018 not transfable to new Maya and selling only subscription for studios where have a hhuge a mount of license and tools is complicate for us to update that and change a insane amount of cost. presumably our choice is change DDC plug to some free cheaper like blender or render engine that support maya2018 we are quite stuck or maintain old version of plug of Maya which in terms of workflow can be annoying.

Well thanks for the update, if we could have support on Maya 2018 for all Octane 2021 version would be the best. presumably next standalone release would be Octane 2022, because this 2021 version is more fixes and doesn't change not bringing new feature could you help us and realese support on Maya 2018 Please?

Best,
JO
