has something changed in the way the Octane plugin reads the diffuse texture gamma from AC materials in AC25?
in a new AC25 file all diffuse textures have gamma 1 and look washed out, and then i checked some old files in AC24 and the value is 2.2 for all materials.
i tried to reconvert all materials but it's still the same, and if anything i made things worse as the materials i had personalised now need redoing...
any ideas?
Diffuse texture legacy gamma in AC25

Hi
I think the issue is that the Daylight Environment changed, and it now has red below the horizon, which makes it look like the textures are washed out. To determine if this is indeed the issue, use an RGB Color of (255, 255, 255) in the Environment Texture.

i changed the environment to pure white but the result is still washed out compared to before
in AC25 all the diffuse textures are defaulting to gamma 1, whereas in previous versions the default was 2.2
the AC25 plugin also has settings for 'Color space' in various places, but the node associated node types don't make any sense, and if i try to choose one the Color space changes from default OCIO to 'Not connected' and then becomes unselectable
so if you create a slab in AC25 and assign a default material, what is the gamma of the diffuse texture?

You may be right! What was the version number of the plugin which is working correctly for you please?
Thanks

the 'correct' plugin is the AC24 version 2020.2.0.105
however, note that if i save the AC24 file and open it in AC25, then it renders fine because the material diffuse has the same 2.2 gamma as in AC24
i think the issue is that starting a new scene in AC25 for some reason the default diffuse gamma applied is 1 instead of 2.2
hope that makes sense

You are right. The gamma for new scenes need to be set to 2.2 (from 1.0). I will fix this in the next release.Dingbat wrote:the 'correct' plugin is the AC24 version 2020.2.0.105
