Yes, you have a limited resolution, you could not save your settings in an .ocs file, no mesh emitters.
But it is fine to test and get the feeling of octane.
The fx 4800 is an older pro gfx card with the same chip as in gtx 260/280 (GT200) but huge memory for textures and hightpoly meshes.
My gtx 260 has 192 cuda cores the gtx 580 got 512 but is more than 2,5 times faster because of modern chip technology faster vram and so forth.
Try the demo suite from download section, there is a benchmark file to compare with other user in this tread:

If it possible on your board put a gtx 460-580 as second card for octane and use your fx for best display performance.
Cheers mib

The demo does not support multiple video cards and you don't have live access to the online-material library...
Hey,
AFAIK the demo version is beta 2.2, and licensed customers have access to 2.3.
The demo does support multiple GPUs.
The licensed beta 2.3 has area lights, a glossy specular material, the livedb with materials and textures, converges faster and produces less fireflies. (it also has a firefly removal option)

I ve only used thew program for 5 mins and i can already feel am getting hard .lol ive just splashed out on a new work station and now i see this program at such a good value for money option compare to vray RT & menatl ray Iray. if i get the licensed version.
Also can i use mental ray materials at all, or mental ray ones ?

You seem to use 3ds max. I don't know if the Octane exporter for 3ds max can also convert vray/mental ray materials, but usually you set up/tweak the materials in Octane anyway, because Octane has it's own node-based material system and the export is done via OBJ/MTL files, which are not very flexible when it comes to materials. Fortunately Octane is not only a renderer, but also a realtime material editor, which makes setting up the materials quite nice.

Images produced by demo version can be used for non-commercial purposes? For example, publish them (untouched or with some post work) in amateur art sites?
