First off, thank you so much for allowing M1 users to utilize Octane. I have heard a lot a good things about the engine and hope to include it in our workflow.

That all being said, I am having issues running Octane within Cinema4D when it's not set to utilize Rosetta. It shows up in the top menu when C4D is set to open using Rosetta which is fine. It does crash a ton, so I decided to try it while C4D is running native. Upon doing so, Octane no longer appears in the top menu. Is there something specific I need to do for Octane to run in C4Dd while utilizing the M1 chip?

Thank you!

Hi scotty,

M1 chip support is still considered experimental at this stage, and it is still working under Rosetta 2 for plugins in Big Sur and Monterey, at the moment.

Please note that PR13 has some issues with M1:

- AI Denoiser is not working
- VDB Volumes are rendering black
- C4D Shaders are not supported, and you need to go to c4doctane Settings/C4D Shaders, and disable both OSL and Auto Backing options.
- cannot work with other M1 native plugins like X-Particles or RedSHift

OctaneX is still based on 2020.1.5 SDK, with some addictions, while PC version is at 2021.1 SDK.
We need to wait for the next upcoming 2022.1 SDK, to have an OctaneX version based on the same SDK as CUDA, and also have a native version for M1 Apple silicon GPUs.

Any estimate for when we would be able to run Octane natively on M1?

I'm having issues on my M1 Ultra. When I launch in Rosetta 2 mode I get the following alert:

---

"c4doctane-R25.xlib” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software

---

I tried removing and reinstalling several times. Hoping that native support comes soon so we can dispense with the workarounds. If there's a way to get it working in any way, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

When can we expect full M1 operability, so we can start using an Ultra and then the upcoming Pro (expected June/July perhaps)?

@kaisdaddy: the error message is expected, you need to allow the c4doctane plugin and library in System Preferences/Security and Privacy panel, and restart C4D a couple of times.

Please make sure to install OctaneX-PR14 version, the issue with Volume and M1 has been solved.

OctaneX 2022.1 native is on the go, and it is working pretty well... just a little bit of more patience.

Happy Mac GPU rendering,

ciao,
Beppe
