I have been trying unsuccessfully to demo Octane in Houdini 9. Even changing the Houdini.env file does not give a working process. Opening the most recent build of the standalone OctaneX and clicking on one of the demo files causes an instant crash every time. I am using OSX 12.01 on a Mac Pro (2019). Has anyone gotten Octane to work for a Mac Pro?
Hi,
you need OctaneX PR13 under macOS 12 Monterey.
Here is the link to the PR13 Demo version for Standalone:
https://render.otoy.com/customerdownloa ... _macos.dmg
It also depends on the GPUs used, unfortunately, AMD Polaris and Intel GPUs are not supported anymore in new OctaneX PR13 for macOS 12 Monterey - there were some Apple Metal driver related issues.
In this case, you should need to go back to Big Sur 11.6.2, with OctaneX PR11, or you need a Vega, Navi or Big Navi GPU with macOS 12 Monterey, via Thunderbolt 3 port + eGPU box.
ciao,
Beppe
