Hello there,

I am about to render a personal project (an art project of some 3D animation). I thought I would make it 1728 x 2160 (4x5 aspect ratio). It is 792 frames long.

On my older workstation with an NVIDIA card (pre RTX) it looks like it will take about ten minutes a frame which, upon calculation, will take about 6 days at 400 samples (Pathtracing).

I was thinking about trying out RNDR network. Would you recommend it? I would like to do a cost analysis because, since this is an art project, I don't want to pour a large amount of cash into it.

I realize that I would have to convert the project to Orbix format first. When I went to this page:
https://know.rendertoken.com/getting-st ... ng-a-scene

It says "Currently the RNDR network supports both OctaneRender 2020.1.4 and 2020.2.3." I used 2021.1. Is that a problem, or is the web page just out of date? I have not converted it to Orbix yet. Does one need to do that in order to just get a cost estimate?

I am thinking of lowering the resolution and perhaps the sample count, although I don't want to use a sample count that is too low.

Please let me know. If you have any suggestions to lowering render times or anything, that would be great.

Also, if you can recommend any inexpensive render farms (even if they are slower than RNDR) I would love to know about them.

And if you have a fast network of PCs in your house and want to help a guy out, maybe I can buy you a gift or something.

Anyway, thanks for the advice!

Joe.

P.S.: I actually have a faster computer with an RTX card, but it is not here at the moment.

Hi,
2021.1 should be supported on RNDR, you can change the engine while preparing your job:

Please, firstly open the exported .orbx scene with Standalone on your machine, to check that everything is in place, and to get the render time per frame, useful to calculate an estimation of the render time/cost on RNDR.

Please have a look at this guide here:

ciao,
