Guys,

It's been quite a while since I was here. I just installed the new Sketchup 2021 in a subscription plan and I have the latest Octane Studio plan. Is there any chance for Octane to work under SU2021? Or is it compatible with SU2020 only?

Hi Smicha,

Thanks so much for the post!!
yes, we plan to add the SU2021 support on the refactored OctaneRender for the Sketchup plugin.
However, we can do a for this old branch as well(just SDK update).

Also, just wondering if you would be keen to join our Beta testing group!!

Cheers
Kind Regards

KB, thank you. Surely I'll join the testing group.

So, please upload SU2021 compatible installation files, just to make it work. For now, I downgraded SU to 2020, and Octane works, but I noticed few crashes.

Thank you,

Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,
We have added your account to our Beta testing group. we are currently working on ORBX export and performance improvement.

Sure, we would do a quick release next week to support SU 2020 with the latest Octane engine

cheers :)

Hello to all. I'm testing OctaneRender_enterprise_2020.2.5_1.0_for_SketchUp_2021_win
Please help me understand how to best use Octane with Sketchup. I've been trying for years, but in the end I always switch to other rendering engines for work due to the lack of reliability of the sketchup plugin. I can't use the Dsiplacement, sometimes it goes, and sometimes it doesn't just switch from Universal to Diffuse.
It seems the same also for the Normals.
By changing some diffuse parameters in Octane Asset Manager, the mapping is mistakenly reset on sketchup, and it becomes difficult to map objects without a match.
Does the integration with LocalDB no longer exist on this version?
Anyone have a reliable workflow with Sketchup?
Better to go back to the STUDIO version, export the file and work only in Octane Studio at this point?
I understand that C4D users are overjoyed with this beautiful and lightning-fast render engine, but who uses Sketchup?
Please help.

Hi ArchMP,

Thank you so much for your feedback.
We are able to replicate the displacement issue on our end. SketchUp exports the geometry with opened vertices that break the geometry.
We are looking into this and will fix it ASAP. Once we fix the displacement issue we would add support to Octane LiveDB.
Regarding the Material change, please use the Octane Material picker toggle to open the main shaders in the Asset Center.
Octane for SketchUp uses Octane Mix material as base material to support native double face then attach an OSL texture to support the SU color shading.

We are working on transporting our plugin from Ruby to C.

cheers
Kind Regards
