Hi @Gray_Parrot
What's the viewport performance like? Any chance of a screen recording of a heavy-ish scene with live viewer panning/rotating/etc?
Trying to decide whether to stay Mac-based and go M1 Max or get a 3090 build for the same money.
Thanks!

Hey Gray_Parrot,Gray_Parrot wrote:Hello friends, I've had a chance to run the chess scene on a 16" m1x 32core with 64GB ram. PT version completes in 25 seconds.
thanks for the result we all have been waiting for

But strange... 25 sec.
The M1 gets the scene done in 58 sec and has 8 GPU cores, the M1 Max has 32 cores and should be 4x faster (like around 14-15 sec.), or am I missing something ?

Hi Serge, That is an interesting metric I hadn't considered. I'm on the OS version that came with the machine, stock. Perhaps the 12.01 version, released on 26 October, has better drivers? If anyone else has thoughts about increasing performance, I'm eager to implement them.
Try this new PR12 build. It's just for OSX 12.0, will not work on another OS

Enterprise only, for now.
@Gray_Parrot: ok, thanks for the clarification.
Yes, I was expecting something more, but this is only the first version for M1 Pro/Max, it could be better.
Happy Mac GPU rendering,
ciao

I'm also getting lower performance than I would expect from the M1 Max 32 cores.
Looks like the Octane Standalone app is still running under Rosetta which is maybe having some effect? I wasnt able to get that new C4D plugin working either, looks like it isnt compiled for the Apple Silicon version of C4D.
I've been doing some tests with a 3060 equipped PC laptop and while on Redshift the rendertimes are very similar, on Octane the PC has a big advantage.
