Hi fellow Octaners,

I’m currently struggling with an issue.
(Working on C4D R21 with Octane 2020.2.4-R2)

When rendering out linear EXR files, the z-pass comes out as plane white even though it shows up perfectly correctly in the viewport.

This seems to be a know issue for quite some time.
In this video from 2 years ago https://vimeo.com/303997000 “Mesh Mash” mentions to set the “tonemapping” to “tonemapped” in the render passes to fix this.

Unfortunately the UI changed in the last Version and the tone mapped option vanished from the Renderpasses. I found the option “force tone mapping” in the “Main” Settings. But activating it doesn’t solve the issue.

Does anybody have an idea what I’m missing here? Is there maby a workaround? I would appreciate any tips.

Buffer types are simplified for latest builds.
With linear buffer z-values are not normalized to 0-1 range. So not visible to eyes. You have to apply some level control in post fx to see z-pixels for your eye pleasure. This is very FAQ topic since many years ago.

Thank you for the quick reply.
Unfortunately I can't find a propper way (at least in After effects) to get anything except white out of the rendering.

Check the Octane C4D manual for that. There's some data to explain this.
