Hi,
about Intel GPU not disabled, please, try to delete the oct.dat file, at the following path:
/Users/UserName/Library/Preferences/Maxon/Maxon Cinema 4D R2X_XXXXXXX/prefs/oct.dat
About MacOs 12, there will be a new specific version of OctaneX supporting it, so better to stay with 11.4/5 for now.
ciao Beppe

Hi pobedeen,
yes, if you add one or two GPUs via Thunderbolt 3, you can render with 2x/3x GPUs at the same time.
OctaneX scales linearly, and the boost depends on the AMD GPUs you choose: Please note that also VRAM amount is important.
The GPU with less VRAM defines the limit of the system, since the whole scene must be loaded in each GPU.
So, if your internal GPU has 8GB of VRAM, and you add a GPU with 16GB, the internal GPU must be disabled, to be able to render with more than 8GB of VRAM.
While, if the scene stays in 8GB of VRAM, you can render with both GPUs at the same time.
Happy Mac GPU rendering,
ciao Beppe

You are forced to upgrade to Big Sur, since Radeon RX 580 is a Polaris GPU, only supported in Apple Metal driver from MacOs 11.2 or greater.TLIFE wrote:My system is macos Catalina 10.15.7, the graphics card is Radeon RX 580 8 GB, how to use OctaneRender?
Also note that Apple has stopped to develop the Metal driver for Catalina with 10.15.7, so you are limited to OctaneX PR6, while under Big Sur we are already at PR11, and the Apple Metal driver is updated at every MacOs 11 upgrade.
ciao Beppe
Thanks rondocap for sharing your results!
Yes, Octane scales pretty well in Multi GPU mode.
