Could anyone please tell me why the red sphere in the attached .blend disappears when I switch Material.005 to Material.003 (which works on other objects)?

It's something to do with the sphere's UV map combined with the Displacement node.

If you disconnect the Displacement node, it comes back.

...or, put the sphere in Edit mode and reset/sphere project - that seems to fix it.

Not sure why :?

Thank you so much for your time! You're absolutely right!

At the risk of being annoying, could I ask you how to reset the UVs? I'm very bad at everything UV as I almost never use them (I hadn't noticed that this LiveDb actually included images...)

No problem.

*I just made a slight edit to my original reply.

To reset or 'sphere project' UV: tab to edit mode on the sphere > press 'A' to make sure all the faces are selected > 'UV' menu (next to 'Face', 'Edge' menus etc.) > choose 'Reset' or 'Sphere Projection'

Thank you so much, Whispermode -- that's very kind of you!

This would have taken me between a month and forever to figure out! Everything's perfect now! :D
