Hy guys, Octane crashes everytime i use this exporter: it doesn't start at all.
No problem loading same mesh from Octane GUI.
Any idea?

Octane doesn't start, or Octane starts but then poofs out of existence after voxelizing?
If Octane isn't starting, please try running OctaneOptions, and be sure the path to the Octane executable is correct. There is a bad bit of error handling on my part where the plug-in just has blind faith the path is correct and merrily chugs along even if this isn't true.
If Octane starts but then crashes after voxeling, try running OctaneOptions and set RenderOnStart=False. Export your scene, then once Octane is open, before you click the mesh node to start rendering, close Rhino. It seems that while Octane does a check to see if you have enough video ram, it doesn't check to see if other things are using it (or perhaps if it can get a contiguous block, not sure)
Let me know if this fails to address what you are seeing,
Sam

Hi Sam, first of all thanks for your efforts, we REALLY appreciate your work ^_^
Octane path is correct, Rhino export .obj file (default settings) and Octane everytime crashes BEFORE starting anything
(Windows 7 standard error message, application stop working, trying to find a reason etc etc)
Same .obj works fine when i import it frmo Octane import mesh command.

What version on Octane? If it is 1.022, setting the cards under ActiveRenderCards in OctaneOptions to anything but false can cause a similar crash. I would suggest in OctaneOptions, set Samples to 0, RenderOnStart=False, and all cards to False, see if that helps.riccardo_vray wrote:Hi Sam, first of all thanks for your efforts, we REALLY appreciate your work ^_^

Also, do you perchance have any unicode characters (letters with accents or other "special" characters?) in your filenames? While the plug-in can handle these, Octane can have some problems, so it might be worth a shot if you do have special characters in the path or the file name to rename it to be ASCII compliant.
Let me know if this work, if not I will get you a "chatty" version of the script so we can see what it wrong.

Sorry for the delay in the reply, I am traveling and have been away from the computer for a while.riccardo_vray wrote:Sorry Sam, i can't understand your advices....i have your latest plugin and latest Octane Beta version (pre-beta 2.3 v5)

Does this happen with all models, or just some (does a simple cube work)? Is the *.obj correctly created? Are there any spaces in any of the file names (this is probably not it, but just trying to eliminate all possible causes)? Lets also try deleting the [WindowsDrive]:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\OctaneExport\exportOptions.ini file, this will effectively reset all the options to the default.
Let me know how that works. I unfortunately won't be around a real computer (one with Rhino, Octane, and a couple of cards) until the 29th, but hopefully we can get you up and running before then.

It does crash too on my side, testing it with Rhino 5 Beta (it handle mesh material better than 4)riccardo_vray wrote:Hy guys, Octane crashes everytime i use this exporter: it doesn't start at all.

Lucky enough the obj is working if loaded from within Octane but we lose the camera setting ; (

Is it only crashing when exporting out of v5, or crashes out of both V4 and V5? As this isn't happing on any of my test machines over here, I also need to know if any of you having this issue have tried deleting exportOptions.ini, and if it happens with all files or just some. I would also appreciate if someone with this crashing issue could send me your copy of exportOptions.ini.justix wrote:It does crash too on my side, testing it with Rhino 5 Beta (it handle mesh material better than 4)

Perhaps you could also try re-downloading the plug-in from the first post on this page as the original one that was posted had a bug in it and was replaced about 2 hours after originally posting.

Hi Sam,
I have put the new version of Octane inside my pc and all is fine. The version I'd want to use is 2.3 v5 and the 3d program is Rhino v4.
I have installed your plug-in "Render-Octane A" but the first problem is I don't see no plug-in when I have open the program and I use it.
If I go in "Tools"-->"Options"--->"show loaded plugins", I can read these words on the same line from sx to dx:
RenderOctane---utility---yes---automatic---sam page---Render---Octane.rhp
But if I use the right button on the top bar of the program, I can't see no Octane render plug-in for to check it or not...
Where am I mistaking?
Here my unique desire is to have the possibility to export a 3d Rhino model with ALL its layers with theirs materials...and not to have a lot of objects without no layers when I open Octane...in this way the work would be heavy duty...
I hope in your help
Thanks
Garcia

Hi Garcia
Thanks,
Sam
If you see this line, then at least some version of the plug-in is loading. If you select this line, then hit the properties button, it will show the Plug-in Properties page in which you can see which version has loaded. It should be 1.022r01.02a.Garcia wrote:If I go in "Tools"-->"Options"--->"show loaded plugins", I can read these words on the same line from sx to dx:

In the toolbar in the zip file, there should be two buttons. One starts the renderer, a left click will let you choose where and what to call the exported file, right click will choose for you. The other button will let you set the options for export, including which version of Octane you want to use. Left click on this will start the OctaneOptions, which lets you set the Octane Path, the number of samples, start rendering on open, and which cards to use.Garcia wrote:But if I use the right button on the top bar of the program, I can't see no Octane render plug-in for to check it or not...![]()

Currently when exporting from Rhino 5, all objects that use the same material are lumped together under the same input node on the mesh object, regardless of if they are assigned by layer or by object. Are you wishing to override this so that each layer has an input node in Octane, and per object material assignments are ignored?Garcia wrote:Here my unique desire is to have the possibility to export a 3d Rhino model with ALL its layers with theirs materials...and not to have a lot of objects without no layers when I open Octane...in this way the work would be heavy duty...
