Hi all,

Just a little bit of info regarding the Daz Genesis 8.1 / Victoria 8.1 and Daz Octane Plugin. Do note if you use Genesis 8 materials on Genesis 8.1 / Victoria 8.1 figure, the UV will not map correctly in Daz Octane plugin as the Genesis 8.1 has a separate UV / texture for back of the head + neck which was part of the torso UV / texture of Genesis 8.

Genesis 8 Texture on Genesis 8 figure - Daz Viewport Ok / Octane Plugin Viewport Ok
Genesis 8 Texture on Genesis 8.1 figure - Daz Viewport Ok / Octane Plugin Viewport not Ok. Back of head / Neck will be from the original 8.1 texture and not from the Genesis 8 texture you applied.
Update:
Genesis 8 Texture on Genesis 8.1 figure - Daz Viewport Ok / Octane Plugin Viewport Ok. - The Head Surface might be missing, just drag the Body material in the Octane Materials tab and drop it on the Head surface.

Genesis 8.1 Texture on Genesis 8.1 figure - Daz Viewport Ok / Octane Plugin Viewport Ok

I am guessing here but I think this happens because the plugin does not read the UV mapping for each of the surface separately. Hopefully Otoy can implement per surface UV map check.
Genesis 8 material on Genesis 8.1 Figure - UV / Texture map issue.
Genesis 8 material on Genesis 8.1 Figure - UV / Texture map issue.
Btw. I do like the new expression controls of the Genesis 8.1 figure. Makes the movement of eyes / mouth / jaw more natural.

Regards,
Rajib

Btw. if you use the Genesis 8.1 figure and apply the Face Controls attachment, do note the Octane Viewport will show the controls in the render.
Face Controls visible in Octane.
Face Controls visible in Octane.
Select the Genesis 8.1 Face Controls under the Head element in the scene tab of your character and turn Off the Octane Shadow Visibility and the Octane Camera Visibility for it. Then the Octane viewport will be okay.
Face Controls - Shadow Visibility and the Camera Visibility Off
Face Controls - Shadow Visibility and the Camera Visibility Off

Hi Rajib,

You should not have any issues using Genesis 8 textures on a Genesis 8.1 Female figure. Make sure that the UV Set is 'Base Female' on all of the figure's surfaces (and not 'Base 8.1 Female') and just use your torso textures on both the new 'Body' and 'Head' surfaces that 8.1 has (previously combined as 'Torso').

You can also do a mix, if you want. The Octane plugin does in fact read the UV Set parameter per surface. For example if I want to use Victoria 8 textures but with Victoria 8.1's eyes I can do that by setting Cornea, EyeMoisture, Irises, Pupils and Sclera to 'Base 8.1 Female' UV Set while leaving the rest of the surfaces as 'Base Female'. This is why DAZ products like 'Project EYEray' do work with the Octane plugin even though it uses custom UVs for all of the eye surfaces.

Hi Huakiami,

I did set the UV to "Base Female" but I still got the issue with the neck and back of the head. I think the reason it works for the "Project EYEray" etc is because it is replacing an existing surfaces by changing it's UV. But Genesis 8.1 has introduced a new Surface "Head" that Octane sees. So even if you apply a Genesis 8 custom material on the Genesis 8.1 character, there is nothing in that material for the "Head" surface. So even if you change the UV to "Base Female" for "Head" surface it will still not map to the torso material of the Genesis 8. Hence it will simply pick up the Head materials from the Genesis 8.1 figure where as the rest of the materials will be based on the "Base Female" custom material.

You are right the Octane is reading the UV parts correctly. Just that 8.1 has introduced a new Surface that I guess Octane cannot ignore. I will check what Daz is doing when older materials are applied on 8.1 figure.

Cheers,
Rajib

There are two new surfaces with 8.1 - 'Body' and 'Head' - previously these were combined as one surface called 'Torso'. Since the material on the Body surface looks correct in your screenshot, I'm assuming that it's applying correctly to Body and just not the Head, so you can just copy the Body material to the Head material and it should work. You don't want to ignore the Head surface, it just needs to be identical to Body if you're using Genesis 8 textures. I tried applying the Victoria 8 material to an 8.1 figure and it did apply the Torso materials to both the new Head and Body surfaces, but I'm guessing that may not always work depending on how the DAZ material is saved.

You are right. I just did that and it worked. I basically used the same Torso material for the Body and Head like you did. Thanks for the help.

Anyone facing this, go to the Materials Tab > Scene Surfaces. By default the Torso texture (Genesis 8) will map to the Body surface (Genesis 8.1). Just Drag that Torso surface and drop it on the new Head surface. Then you can again save the Custom Material and use that next time to automatically apply the correct materials to the head surface too.

So are they going to update ORK so we don't have to keep doing this torso fix.
