Hi All,

I'm having some trouble with a favourite of every 3d artist - blurred reflections. In my case it's a car paint material. I cannot for the life of me get rid of the noise to a satisfactory level, despite using what I think are fairly high settings. I'm sure someone will spot some glaring error in my settings.

I thought it might be the normal map going in to the paint shader, so I replaced it with another flake normal map, but it still looks bad.

My lights all have quite high samples in the scene (they're at 512, probably too high), and any emmissive materials have high samples too. The bit that I'm looking to fix is the damaged panel closest to the camera, near the wheel visible in one of the grabs.

Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks,

you should post the material if you can; apply the material to a null in an otherwise empty scene. Also, be sure to File > Save Project with Assets... and zip up the resulting files. That way, we can all take a look and give you some guidance.

Oh - thank you so much! Here's the car paint material applied to a null like you asked.

Cheers,

Cahal

Hi JayRoth - I'm sure you've better things to do, but did you get a look at the shader I shared? Would love to know if I've done something wrong :)

Cheers,

Cahal

Hi, Cahal, actually I have been playing with it, in between my other duties. Have you seen this video? It might be helpful to a degree:

I am not endorsing this video one way or the other, but I just wanted to mention it. I will let you know if I run across anything in your file that catches my eye.
