One is a full release and the other, well experimental. Or in Development. I do not know if that is it but one works and one does not.joenyc wrote:What is the relationship between Octane X and Octane 2020.2. When are the feature sets expected to converge? It seemed that Octane X was slightly ahead for a while and now 2020.2 seems to have newer features that X doesn't. I've asked a similar question before, but the roadmap is still very unclear to me. Will all be unified under an OctaneRender 2021 release?

Octane X is a superset of the current CUDA stable release (2020.1.5) with some key 2021 features (including major memory improvements) not yet ported to 2020.x CUDA (even in 2020.2 which is a CUDA only interm build coming this month ahead of moving to 2021 releases).Jedi_blade wrote:One is a full release and the other, well experimental. Starting with Octane 2021.1 , we are planning to have both Octane X 2021.1 (Metal) and OctaneRender 2021.1 (CUDA) releases and features updated in tandem.

Any news on a new update. Octane X loves to forget I have an active sub and crash until I start C4D again, load up the scene and pray it reads.Goldorak wrote:Octane X is a superset of the current CUDA stable release (2020.1.5) with some key 2021 features (including major memory improvements) not yet ported to 2020.x CUDA (even in 2020.2 which is a CUDA only interm build coming this month ahead of moving to 2021 releases).Jedi_blade wrote:One is a full release and the other, well experimental. Hey man, so funny story. The class assets for Lights, Camera, and Render," all the week 1 assets are full of instances that are set to "instances" instead of "Render Instance." I assumed they would be set to render instance and did not check. When we had those switchback, and there were a lot for my scene, it stopped crashing nearly as much. It is not completely stable as the denoiser and upsample does not work but I was able to kind of finish the assignment. I still had issues seeing live render updates. When I push render it waits about 10-20 minutes before I can see any changes, but it got me through.julienm wrote:Same here, love the course, but my set up crashes constantly on the smallest of things, like adding a texture, scaling textures, turning on a normal map, camera angle update...It is quite frustrating and I am considering leaving the course if I can't get further with the lessons...Jedi_blade wrote:Are they working on Octane X. There is a giant ad on the front page and it says stable, but as I just found out in the Lights, Camera, and Render Class, the Octane X version is not holding up for people with the most powerful setups. What is happening with this, why is so bad. By listing it as stable it seems like OTOY is saying good luck but we do not care that you're paying for something that does not work. I get it is not easy but it would be easy to list what it has in development. Apple pushed this as a big deal to get people to buy their Mac Pro, I feel like they tricked me.

That would be beast. I think I read the updates to 2021 with happen with both PC and Mac.Weezer wrote:I just want the current denoising problem sorted.

Honestly, same... Hopefully they fix this problem and the crashes soon, because right now it's very unusable.Weezer wrote:I just want the current denoising problem sorted.
