i keep wondering if something on my system is making octane behave strangely in blender:
i have attached screenshots and it really shows the kind of problems i am having. look at the screen shots: 300 samples render first at 22secs, than 33, than 48.
if its at all relevant, i have 2 1080ti gpus, both are fully running cuda but the "3d" workload is maxdd on on gpu 0 and gpu 1 shows no activity.
this happened before. one day the scene will render fine the next day its slow as hell.
the fluctiations in rendering speed, especially by 100% should not be happening in any sort of scenario.
rendering speed variations.

I'd like to test that with your scene.
here ist the file. its really pretty basic.
this ties into the other performance issues i was having and the scene is the same one i was testing across platforms.

I've tested your scene and I'm getting the exact same render time for each frame.
so after much struggle i have fixed this.
i think the problem was octane trying to authenticate token. it kept repeating every few seconds and i think it influenced the performance negatively.
all it took was reinstalling blender and now i get much better performance.
the system analytics tool still comes up with some strange reports but the support says, if it works its fine.
very happy about it and looking forward working with blender octane.
i was very critical of octane especially in the context of e-cycles. comparing it head to head, e-cycles was a clear winner and i was puzzled by the claims of octane superior speed.
now i finally get have octane running as it should, happy to say. it was driving me insane.

i spoke to soon.
something is up with blender octane on my system and it seems its not trivial.
blender simply renders extremely slow on my system and there is other hitches aswell.
support is really amazing and they are looking into it and even updating me on the progress.
